2019年度入学式 歓迎の挨拶(2019年4月2日)

公衆衛生学研究科長 遠藤 弘良

The working language used at this Graduate School of Public Health is English, therefore please allow me to address you in English now.

It is our pleasure to have this entrance ceremony jointly with the College of Nursing and the Graduate School of Nursing Science.

On behalf of the faculty and support staff of the Graduate School of Public Health, I would like to extend an official and cordial welcome to the third entering cohort of students of Master of Public Health and the first student of Doctor of Public Health.

No doubt, all of you bring with you impressive aspirations and expectations for your academic activities in public health at St. Luke’s.
“Medicine”, as you know, has been progressing day and night. And in doing so, the sensitivity to see “health” from a broad perspective, not only at the individual-level but also from a population perspective, is becoming increasingly important. At the same time, the reality of globalization is rapidly progressing in health care.

Our Graduate School of Public Health opened two years ago to nurture public health professionals with this type of needed sensitivity and global perspective. Our students have various professional backgrounds, not only in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and the like, but also in various other fields such as IT and journalism. Overseas students are also an integral part of our diverse academic community.

Most of you are working professionals. Therefore, I’m sure that you must be filled with not only excitement, anticipation but perhaps a bit of uncertainty about how to cope with both intensive study, busy professional work and precious family life. Your predecessors were and are in the same situation and successfully coped and are coping with this hardship with the mutual encouragement among their fellow students and by the support of our faculty.

Thanks to the efforts and contribution by your predecessors, we have been able to establish a foundation for the school. Based on this foundation, I would appreciate your collaboration following in their footsteps and we would like to continue the tradition of hard work and success.

Taking this opportunity, please allow me to say a few words to the students of College of Nursing and the Graduate School of Nursing Science.
The door to our graduate school is open to everyone at St. Luke’s International University. As the name of our university indicates, we are committed to supporting the promotion of “internationalization” and diversification of our community.

Our Graduate School of Public Health has been organizing various events such as international seminars in which all members of our university can participate. We look forward to welcoming you to our activities and studying with you. I wish you all the best in enjoying campus life with your fellow students of Graduate School of Public Health.

Congratulations
