These words will motivate your nursing aspirations.VOICE02「タッチの意味を探究したい」、それが大学院進学の理由です。“I needed to find the meaning of ‘touch,’” and therefore proceeded with postgraduate studies.看護師は「手当て」という言葉に代表されるように、患者さんに触れる（以下、「タッチ」）機会が非常に多い職業です。学部生の頃の実習や救急外来での勤務経験を通して、一見、何気ない行為に見えるタッチですが、看護師の触れ方ひとつで患者さんを励まし、時には嫌悪感を抱かせてしまうこともあると気づきました。また逆に、看護師もタッチをした患者さんの反応から、自身の看護の振り返りとなるため、看護師のタッチは非常に深奥な意味を持つ行為です。私の場合は、看護という枠を超えた分野の先生方の深い思考に触れたことや、看護学や助産学に対して熱く真摯に向き合う仲間や先輩たちとの出会いが、自身の視野と研究の可能性を広げてくれたと感じています。今後もタッチの意味を探究するために、博士後期課程でより深く学習し、研究者として看護に貢献できるよう、日々研鑽していきたいと思っています。The Japanese word used for the provision of treatment can directly be translated as “placing hands,” and nursing indeed involves a large amount of “touching” of patients. Throughout my undergraduate practical nursing training and while I worked in the emergency outpatient department, I realized that, although touching seems to be a neutral act, the way a nurse touches a patient may sometimes actually comfort and relax a patient while at other times it may communicate a sense of disgust and rejection. On the other hand, the patient’s reaction to the nurse’s touch also serves as feedback about the kind of nursing that the nurse has been practicing.
