本学は1901年米国聖公会の宣教医師ルドルフ・ボーリング・トイスラー博士により創設されました聖路加国際病院に端を発します。その後、日本の医療水準を向上させることと同時に看護の質を高める必要性から、1920年聖路加国際病院附属高等看護婦学校が誕生し、2021年度で看護教育100年を越えました。 新型コロナウイルス感染症の世界的流行の中で始まる学究生活に戸惑いが大きいことと思います。人々が集まり行動を共にするという人間社会の根底を揺るがす事態になっており、当たり前だと思っていた日常が、貴重な瞬間であると教えてくれます。この危機が人間の新たな絆や、医療システム、治療方法の発展、次なる疫病災害への備えという成果につながることを願います。 どんな試練にも窮地を脱する手立てがあるはずです。医療・看護学・公衆衛生学を学ぶものとして、病に苦しむ人々への治療とケアを探究し、信頼できる情報の選択、予防活動の啓発等、祈りと共に誠実に行動いたしましょう。 校歌に記されている聖路加に集う人々の思いを、あなたも一員としてつなぐことが託されています。皆さんと集い、共にこの校歌を歌う日が来ることを心待ちにしています。 St. Luke’s International University extends its roots from St. Luke’s International Hospital, founded in 1901 by American missionary physician Dr. Rudolf Bolling Teusler. Following that, the St. Luke’s High Grade Nursing School attached to St. Luke’s International Hospital was born in 1920 from the need to improve medical standards and the quality of nursing in Japan. In 2021, this university welcomed in its 100th anniversary in nursing education. I am sure that there is much confusion with your lives as students beginning during the global spread of this unexpected novel coronavirus. We are currently in a state shaking the very foundation of human society in which people gather and act together. This has taught us that the day-to-day that we thought of as obvious is instead a highly precious moment in time. It is my hope that this danger leads to fruitful outcomes such as new bonds among people, new healthcare systems, development of treatment methods, and preparation for the next epidemic disaster. No matter the trial, there is always a tool to get through it. As academics of healthcare, nursing, and public health, search for treatment and care of those suffering from disease, and act with integrity through the selection of reliable information, instruction on prevention activities, and prayer. The beliefs of those that gather to St. Luke’s as written into the school song have been entrusted to you as a fellow member.
