Adult Nursing

Critical Care Nursing, Oncology Nursing/Palliative Care Nursing

Adult Nursing involves all aspects of nursing from adolescence through old age, which is usually the largest part of a person’s life. The targets of adult nursing include a wide range of people from those who are basically healthy to those in a terminal stage, as well as various circumstances and disease conditions. Nurses have to provide appropriate nursing services to all - from those in an immediate life-threatening condition and need surgery or intensive care for cancer or trauma, to those with chronic conditions like heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, diabetes, etc. Thus it is not only necessary to have knowledge of the disease and its treatment, but also to keep the person’s living conditions in mind. To cover this very wide, deep, and complicated field of nursing, students at the undergraduate level receive lectures, seminars and practical training, and have many opportunities to consider and discuss matters with other students.
The master’s course covers the two fields of oncology nursing/palliative care and critical care nursing, and both fields consist of a master’s thesis course as well as an advanced practical course, aimed at those wishing to specialize. In the advanced practical course, students are not only taught by the faculty in this field, but their practical training is supervised by clinical nurse professionals who are actively practicing at the front line of oncology nursing and of critical care nursing as clinical staff of St. Luke’s International University. Thus students are equipped with advanced practical skills. The doctoral course covers the two fields of adult nursing and cancer nursing, and each student is expected to become a nursing research pioneer specializing in their individual field of interest with other students.
