  5. 2023/November A joint research project between Dr. Emilie Matsumoto-Takahashi, junior associate professor and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) was described in Tropical Medicine and Health. Tropical Medicine and Health is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research and reviews on all aspects of tropical medicine and global health (Impact Factor: 4.5).

Using Earth observation satellite data and epidemiological data, Prof. Takahashi analyzed the impact of deforestation on malaria distribution in Lao PDR, and obtained interesting results that contribute to the elimination. With global warming steadily progressing, forested areas are expected to play an important role in the incidence of malaria in Lao PDR. This is believed because malaria in Lao PDR is mainly forest malaria transmitted by Anopheles dirus.

  11. 2023/May A joint research project between Dr. Emilie Matsumoto-Takahashi and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) was described in One Health. One Health is an international peer-reviewed, open access journal that brings together leading experts in virology, bacteriology, parasitology, and public health research to provide a platform for the rapid transfer of high-quality scientific knowledge about inter- and intra-species transmission of pathogens (Impact Factor: 9).

Using Earth observation satellite data and epidemiological data, Dr. Takahashi analyzed the impact of precipitation on schistosomiasis transmission and obtained interesting results that contribute to the intervention. The recent dramatic increase in precipitation has raised concerns about the increase of waterborne diseases such as schistosomiasis. The present study revealed that the number of schistosomiasis patients increases as precipitation during dry season increases, and suggested that intensive infection control measures are needed especially during this season.
