Introduction
The 2020 Olympics will occur in Tokyo, and will be the largest mass gathering held in Japan’s history. As part of preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has created a research group to develop an HIV and STI prevention strategy for the Olympics. This project will review prevention activities undertaken in other Olympic cities, develop a strategy for prevention of HIV/STIs in Tokyo, and make recommendations for building on the Olympics to establish a legacy for public health in their aftermath.
