International Exchange Program
At St. Luke’s International University, students have numerous opportunities to widen their global insights using the universal language of “nursing”.
Academic exchange agreement
Our university has entered into academic exchange agreements with various universities in Northern America, Asia, Africa, etc.
We have 2-week, short-term overseas exchange programs with Yonsei University in South Korea, Mahidol University in Thailand and Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan. Every year 4 undergraduate students are sent to study at two of these universities.
Students can participate in a 3-week intensive English program at McGill University in Canada during their summer vacation. Their academic performance within this different culture, including experience of dormitory life and homestay, can earn them credits at our university.
Apart from this summer training program, we also started a specialized course in medical/nursing English for advanced students from 2014 – it is a spring language program, and is provided in cooperation with McGill University.
Support of participation in events behind our internationalization as a nursing university
We encourage and support students to participate in international meetings of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), and the International Confederation of Midwives, among others. Taking part in meetings attended by nurses from all over the world provides a great opportunity to widen students’ global perspectives.
We accept nursing students from overseas on an irregular basis. Our students can thus interact with these foreign students while they are in Japan. Students whom we have thus hosted in the past include a student from Liberia who was a Bishop Williams Memorial Fund visiting fellow, and graduate students from North Carolina University in the United States who stayed for 4 weeks.
