Since its appointment in 1990, St. Luke's International University has served as a center for the development of nursing education, practice, and research in Primary Health Care (PHC). In order to fulfill this role, St. Luke's collaborates and cooperates with nursing research and educational institutions both domestically and abroad.

Objectives of the Center

  • To develop nursing models and systems of care for an aging society with low fertility.
  • To provide leadership in citizen-driven, evidence-based care development.
  • To develop and evaluate new courses and curricula for the University.
  • To gather and disseminate information through academic activities at conferences.
  • To provide leadership in academic contributions to nursing policy development.
  • To host trainees from overseas and disseminate information on nursing in Japan to the rest of the world.

The Center is connected to WHO headquarters and to the various Centers, and works in cooperation and collaboration within WPRO.

Activities of the Centre

The Center conducts research on improving the quality of nursing care to meet the nursing needs in various countries. In addition, based on the current state of nursing related to PHC, the Center has begun working on the development of a model of nursing that is required in today's society. Furthermore, the Center is working on the development of international collaboration models.
Each year, a report of activities is prepared and reported to WHO headquarters, and is also posted on this website.
