Establishment of Doctoral Program in Public Health (April 2019)
St. Luke’ s International University (Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Tsuguya Fukui) had applied to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to offer a doctoral program in Public Health, which has been approved as of August 31, 2018 (Friday).
The Graduate School of Public Health at St. Luke’s International University was established in April 2017 with the aim of nurturing highly skilled specialists who can contribute to the maintenance and promotion of human health and well-being. The addition of a doctoral program was considered imperative, firstly to rear faculty who can support post-graduate level education in this field, and secondly to train human resources with highly advanced research skills who can take a lead in the meticulous task of analyzing and assessing the myriad of newly emerging challenges to public health all over the world scientifically, and who can applying the obtained results in a useful way. The Graduate School of Public Health, where Master of Public Health, MPH graduates have been fostered, thus becomes an independent Graduate School of Public Health with an integrated system of higher education.

【Doctoral Program in Public Health】
●Involves only the departments of Epidemiology/Biostatistics, the most fundamental and important disciplines where scientifically evidence-based analytical skills in the broad field of medicine and healthcare are taught.
●The medium of study is English, as with the master’s course.
●The only course of its kind in Japan that meets global standards, since it adheres to the criteria for the Doctor in Public Health program set by the American Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)
●Practical training is mainly performed at St. Luke’s International Hospital, with its advanced facilities for research in “clinical epidemiology” and other clinical research fields in the quest of assessing and improving the quality of medical services and healthcare.
