The Open Campus was held on October 13, Sunday
On Sunday, October 13th, we held an open campus event in hybrid format (on-site and online).
The first part of the event was a symposium on the theme of Public Health Research and Policy Implementation in Maternal and Child Health. We invited Dr. Zentaro Yamagata to give the keynote speech, which was entitled Maternal and child health research and policy implementation from the perspective of EBPM - Research begins and ends with the people. He introduced various approaches he has taken for children’s health as a physician, researcher and educator, and talked about the importance of working together with local people in order for research to actually be useful for the people. Next, Associate Professor Tsuguhiko Kato gave a lecture on Maternal and child health and early childhood education, presenting the possibility that breaking the negative cycle of poverty through early childhood education can have a long-term impact on adult health. Associate Professor Satomi Sato then gave a lecture on Is Childhood Cancer a Public Health Issue? She introduced case studies of the problems and difficulties faced by children who have survived childhood cancer and returned to school and society, and suggested that considering social health beyond the point where lives are saved could be a public health theme. Finally, a panel discussion was held with Associate Professor Kazunari Onishi as a facilitator, discussing the important role of intermediary personnel who connect policy makers and researchers and the importance of close collaboration among various institutions in order to make public health research useful in society.
The second part of the event was a session introducing the school curriculum and answering questions frequently asked by prospective applicants, followed by presentations by current students. The students gave presentations on how they are working to solve global medical and health problems that they are tackling through their work, research, and internships, as well as their future prospects.
After this, individual consultations and a mini campus tour were held for those who attended the event onsite. Thank you very much for your participation.
