DHUNGEL Bibha, Graduated Doctoral Program in AY 2022

My experience at SLGSPH was a pivotal point in my professional development

I was attracted to St. Luke's because of its more than 100-year history of medical education and research, its impressive reputation, and its international environment where I could study with a diverse group of students from around the world.
One of the most thought-provoking courses was biostatistics. This course provided me with practical experience using statistical software. The biostatistics classes were far from easy, but the satisfaction of solving complex problems made it all worthwhile and reinforced my passion for biostatistics. As a public health researcher, my focus is on tobacco control research. During the DrPH program, I became a research assistant at the National Center for Child Health and Development (NCCHD) in Japan to gain practical research experience, since through GSPH's comprehensive education I gained the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to excel in my role. As the lead author on several research articles, I acquired independence and confidence in analyzing complex data sets.
Through my coursework and research experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of evidence-based practices in public health and the need for research to guide policy and interventions.
Upon completion of the Doctoral program, I am thrilled to be promoted to the role of Researcher at NCCHD and to begin my new position as a Lecturer of Statistics at Waseda University, where I will teach basic, intermediate, and advanced statistics courses. My goal is to make significant contributions to the fields of tobacco control and biostatistics and to train the next generation of researchers and practitioners.
Ultimately, I would like to serve as Minister of Health in my home country of Nepal and work to develop effective public health policies and interventions for the underprivileged.
