Women’s Health Nursing/ Midwifery

Women’s Health Nursing/Midwifery covers both fields of women’s health and midwifery. The focus of Women’s Health is on personal health care of a woman - both body and mind - throughout her lifespan and within her social milieu, and includes such factors as a specific awareness of the unique experiences of women and respect for their wishes. In Midwifery the focus is on providing support for women, with the cooperation of the woman and her family, to assure that she realizes her maximum potential particularly during pregnancy, delivery and childcare, within a safe and secure environment. In Women’s Health Nursing/Midwifery the emphasis of practical work and research is on women-centered care. The detailed and warm kind of nursing care that has been developed in Japan is also spread through international support activities. Women’s Health is divided into an Advanced Clinical Nursing Course (Maternal Nursing) and a Master’s Thesis course. Midwifery is also divided into an Advanced Clinical Nursing Course, which consists of both a course that provides students the opportunity to obtain qualification to sit for the Japanese National Midwifery Examination and a course involving the United Republic of Tanzania Maternal and Child Health Support Volunteer Initiative, and a Master’s thesis course. Students can choose courses to suit their individual career plans.
